make_tape_recovery

Hi Forum,

Whenever I run make_tape_recovery -Av -a /dev/rmt/1mn, it shows 0 against a non-root volume /dev/vg01. "0" means it excludes the volume. Why is it so? Is there something wrong in "make_tape_recovery" syntax? Please comment if anyone knows ignite-ux recoveru utilities.

Re: make_tape_recovery

Hi,

I have attached the screen output of "make_tape_recovery" with this mail as a word doc attachment. Please have a look at and suggest me if anything is wrong.

Re: make_tape_recovery

Hi Deepak:

You need specifically include vg01 or elements of it. For instance, you can add the option:

'-x inc_entire=vg01'

See the man pages for 'make_tape_recovery' for more information.

Re: make_tape_recovery

james ,

So what will be the final o/p if I have to bkp 2 volumes vg00, vg01

Is it :-
make_tape_recovery -Av -x inc_entire=vg00, vg01 -a /dev/rmt/1mn

Also what is best among make_recovery & make_tape_recovery

Re: make_tape_recovery

The '-A' option only causes ignite to backup a whole VG if a file from an lvol in that VG is explicitly included in the backup, either through the '-x include=' option or in the /var/opt/ignite/recovery/mnr_essentials. file.

If you want an Ignite backup of *everything* in vg00 and vg01 you need to run the following:

make_tape_recovery -v -x inc_entire=vg00 -x inc_entire=vg01 -a /dev/rmt/1mn

Beware of adding more VGs into your recovery archive, remeber that:
a) It all has to fit on one (bootable) tape.
b) The tool used to backup the data (pax) does not support file size >2GB so anything in your vg01 bigger than this will cause an error.

Re: make_tape_recovery

Best way deepak is to use simply the interactive mode of make_tape_recovery, by running:
# make_tape_recovery -i
then u get to select the vgs you want to include.
Good luck,
tarif

Re: make_tape_recovery

Hi Deepak:

With regard to your question of 'make_recovery' vs. 'make_tape_recovery', you should use the newer 'make_tape_recovery' instead of 'make_recovery'. You will find that you have far more options. Eventually, 'make_recovery' will be eliminated.
