Make_tape_recovery

Hi,

Can I run make_tape_recovery with the system online with others users or I have to stop others programs and logout the others users and just have root user online ?

Regards,
Mauro

Re: Make_tape_recovery

Hi

It can be done live, but it is by far better to do it on an idle system.

If live you can experiance file locking problems.

Re: Make_tape_recovery

Hi Mauro:

Yes, you can run an Ignite 'make_tape_recovery' while the system is operating "nornally".

Re: Make_tape_recovery

Hello Mauro,

According to the specs of Ignite-Ux, it is possible to run a make_tape_recovery on a live system. But just to be sure, check out this link:

Good luck!

Re: Make_tape_recovery

You can run it when the system is online, you may see a few errors at the end of the process regarding backing up some temporary files. This is because when the backup list was created there may have been files in /var/tmp and they were gone when the backup itself was attempted.

I do it all the time though and I've never had a problem with a restore.

Re: Make_tape_recovery

HI Mauro,

There is no problem as such running make_tape_recovery on a busy system except that it may show up in the top processes list when tools like glance are used.

Unless it is an emergency, I would schedule it during the non-critical hours of business like any other backup.

Re: Make_tape_recovery

You can run the command when users and system are online and in working condition.

I would schedule it on a time when there is a free time just not to risk a system performance.

Re: Make_tape_recovery

Don't forget to unmount any CIFS (Windows shares) you may have mounted. There seems to be no easy way to have make_recovery skip these, other than with file list scripts. Make_R. can sit forever waiting for authentification from the windows system while trying to back them up.
