Re: Make_tape_recovery
I think I need training on Ignite Server. There's plenty of documentation with a lot of variation to setting up the Ignite Server. Of all the doucmentation available, what is the best book or documentation to be recommended on the subject of preparing and setting up an Ignite Server in layman's terms.

Re: Make_tape_recovery
Go to this link for the admin guide, read it and if you have further questions go ahed and ask us.
The guide is pretty simple to follow, I set up my ignite server using this document.

Re: Make_tape_recovery
Option 2: movable tape drive.
Is the tape drive in a separate box connected by scsi cable?
Are the other boxes without the tape drive in reach of this separate box?
Can you reboot whenever you feel like it?
You want a way to make ignite tapes without using the ignite server?
If the answer to these 4 questions is yes, then I guess you could plug the tape drive into each of the other 2 boxes in turn, and make recovery tapes for them without using an ignite server.
Option 3: boot from media, manual configuration, then fbackup/frestore over ssh.
I DO know it is possible to make an fbackup tape by using passing the backup data over the network via secure shell. This would not be very usable for disaster recovery. But you could use it to restore files.
One problem with it is that you would have to have an individual tape for each and every fbackup job. This means you would be swapping out 3 tapes a day if you go down this path. But this problem is an "enhancement" because the tapes run very fast this way when restoring.
