I need help to try to correct this problem and possibly call attention to a problem with Patch PHNE_23862.
Can anyone help with my additional questions in the above posting? (I hope you can get to it)

Re: man lanadmin errors after patching
Before you installed patch PHNE_23862, did you verify that you have the dependency patch of PHCO_10947 ??
Also, what kind of errors are you encountering? What OS, Server class, and lan card?
Also, PHNE_23863 can be used in place of PHNE_23862.

Re: man lanadmin errors after patching
OS - HPUX B.10.20
Server - HP9000/893 (T600)
LanCard - 100BT
Errors:
#man lanadmin
# Reformatting entry. Wait... aborted (sorry)
#man landiag
(the man page from lanadmin comes back)
#landiag
(the menu page from lanadmin comes back)
#lanadmin
(the menu page from lanadmin comes back)
The dependency PHCO_10947 was contained in the patch depot and was re-installed at the same time.
Entry from the swagent.log:
NOTE: The fileset "PHCO_10947.PHCO_10947,r=B.10.00.00.AA" will be
reinstalled because the "reinstall" option is set to "true".
* Reading source for file information.
NOTE: The patch PHCO_10947 is already installed on the system.
Skipping the installation of PHCO_10947. To reinstall this
patch, deinstall it first before attempting to reinstall it.
NOTE: The "checkinstall" script for "PHCO_10947" gave an "exclude"
return (exit code "3"). The script location was
"/var/tmp/AAAa05562/catalog/PHCO_10947/pfiles/checkinstall".
NOTE: This software will be excluded from further processing.
* Executing preDSA command.
I'm not sure that the error I'm seeing has anything to do with the report in the swagent.log, nor am I sure what to do about it.
Any thoughts?

Re: man lanadmin errors after patching
I have a D210 ( 9000/811 ) running 10.20.
I do NOT have PHNE_23862 or PHNE_22216 installed. But I do have PHKL_16751 and PHCO_10947 installed. We do not have a 100 Mbps NIC, only the onboard 10 Mbps.
When I enter "man landiag", I get the lanadmin man page. When I enter "man lanadmin", I get the same lanadmin man page. So it looks like the improper man page for landiag pre-dates these patches.

Re: man lanadmin errors after patching
Landiag was popular in the 9.x and 10.00 world but your right that it has been replaced with lanadmin.
Can you run a lanadmin command from the command line?
ex: lanadmin -x 1
If so, I would also check the patch filesets to ensure that everything from the patch applied properly.

Re: man lanadmin errors after patching
As per the man pages:
NOTE: lanadmin replaces the now obsolete landiag command beginning at 10.0.

Re: man lanadmin errors after patching
The original (and still is) problem was that the #man lanadmin command was causing errors.
Also, how DO you fix, clean up corrupt patches? (reference the posting above - the link)

SolutionDo this:
whereis lanadmin landiag
Note the path to the man pages, like: /usr/share/man/man1m.Z/lanadmin.1m
Now, cd to that directory, and copy landiag (because it is working correctly) and copy it over lanadmin.
cp landiag.1m lanadmin.1m

Re: man lanadmin errors after patching
The help files are in compressed format in /usr/share/man/man1m.Z directory for lanadmin/landiag command.
Check for these files
/usr/share/man/man1m.Z/landiag.1m and lanadmin.1m
If these files are not in comressed format, compress them and then rename back as landiag.1m or lanadmin.1m respectively.
Thanks.
Prashant.

Re: man lanadmin errors after patching
Just one more thing....
Melvyn Burnard wrote this in the previous post:
You may want to check that all patches are installed AND confiogured by doing:
swlist -l fileset -a state | grep -e transient -e install -e corrupt
and see what you get as output (hopefully nothing)
Well, I did that and received some output - some "corrupt" files on other patches. Should I be concerned? Can you clean these up?

Re: man lanadmin errors after patching
You should look into applying the latest "patch bundle", Dec 2001 now I believe, for 10.20.

Re: man lanadmin errors after patching
make_recovery (Ignite) is not supported on 10.20. I tried it and got some pretty wierd stuff - then did the research.
Ah well - we continue on.
All the best for the new year!
