mapping a LUN directly to HP Virtual Machines 4.1 (VM Guest)

Can we map a LUN directly from storage to Guest VM? Does HP VM 4.1 support FC adapter Virtualization?

You can directly map it, however it will be SCSI or AVIO for the guest.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the quick response. So does that mean FC adapters are virtualized and hence the SAN traffic can go through virtualized HBAs on the VM guest and not through VM host?

No,you still present the LUN to the Host, and then virtualise the LUN to be seen as a SCSI disk oon the Guest OS

==>No,
We will assign all the resources from Host only.1st up all those resources should be there or visible in Host.In this, we have to present the LUN to the host, verfity it from Host and assign it to the guest as SCSI disk.

Re: mapping a LUN directly to HP Virtual Machines 4.1 (VM Guest)

Hi,

It never maps directly.

The concept is as simple as a straght line.

"Guest OS will not be able to see any hardware directly , untill and unless the hardware is assigned to that perticular guest from the host machine".

You can map a lun/disk directly (it called directly because we can assign file and LV also ) even in older version.
