Sorry, I was trying to be constructive, but it may not have come out like that. I'll try to explain what I was thinking.

HP support have said they would prefer to see issues raised in the "Questions regarding Forums" section.

Most people here (including me) have said they prefer to see a single monthly issues thread. The issue of where it is located is a separate question.

The HP Moderators have agreed to allow a user-started monthly issues thread. Experience noted above suggests that the moderators are watching the "Questions regarding Forums" forum for issues, as they said they would.

It therefore seems to me that putting the issues thread in the place where the moderators are watching would be a sensible compromise.

Yes, I could start one myself, but I don't think it would be helpful to have competing threads, and mine would probably get removed as I don't have agreement to do this, and again, having two threads could be seen as being disruptive.

Re: March 2006 AUTHORIZED ITRC issues thread

Shalom,

We're the customers. Collectively we spend enough money with HP and put in enough hours supporting these forums to have our wishes agreed to.

Will the moderators please watch this thread, because it will provide better customer service and because the eyeballs are here.

I'm perfectly happy to escalate this issue if needed. Lets be happy and make us customers happy for now and monitor this thread, and post back when requested corrections are made.

If there were a link to an issues thread or mailform on every ITRC forums page, I would agree, the need for this thread would be lessened.

Still, we interacted here and solved a problem (see above) and that proves the worth of this posting.

Smile everybody.

Re: March 2006 AUTHORIZED ITRC issues thread

Steven, and others,
I fully agree that putting the issues into one monthly thread is much easier to handle than separate threads.

What I see as a different issue is where that thread should be located.

I think it is worth taking this opportunity to examine the arguments as to why the thread should be in the HPUX General forum. With the growth of the forums covering other areas I don't think historical precedent is a good enough reason. Even before the latest statement from the forum moderators I advocated moving the thread to "Questions regarding Forums", as have others, and the moderators' statements add weight to the argument for a move.

Please humour me and tell me what the logical reasons for it remaining here are, and why they outweigh the reasons for it being equally accessible for all forum users.

Let me stress that although I work for HP, I'm speaking purely as a user of the forums; I have no role whatsoever in the running of ITRC.

Re: March 2006 AUTHORIZED ITRC issues thread

Thank You Andrew,

For now, could you please ask, for the sake of peace and continuity the moderators to monitor and respond here.

I'll ask Pete Randall to add to his enhancement list a locater on all ITRC forums page that links in a new thread location.

I don't really care where it is either, so long as its visible and easy to find.

Agreement?

Re: March 2006 AUTHORIZED ITRC issues thread

I would be happy for the thread to be moved to questions regarding the forums, but only AFTER Pete's long-standing suggestion about customized pages is implemented. It would then be possible for me to have, for example, HP-UX, workstations, and questions regarding the forums. A Windross user could have Microsoft and questions regarding the forums.

Moving the thread before this suggestion is implemented would not make it equally accessible to all - it would make it equally inaccessible to all.

Well, today's "New HP Forums Discussions" email message was not working as normal. It consisted of one line:

Re: March 2006 AUTHORIZED ITRC issues thread

Don't know if this is a good place to put this or not...just received this from our HP account rep:

The HP-UX patches for the DST 2007 changes are now available. The changes to DST are as follows:

In Spring, the time will change on the 2nd Sunday in March, versus the 1st Sunday in April
In Fall, the time will change on the 1st Sunday in November, versus the last Sunday in October

Required patches:

PHCO_34375 (11.23) - is available today, Monday, March 13th, 2006
PHCO_34342 (11.11) - is available today, Monday, March 13th, 2006
PHCO_34266 (11.00) - is available today, Monday, March 13th, 2006

These patches won't have changes for:

1. Canada (Most provinces still have to pass legislation enacting the same changes as the US). Ontario and Quebec are the only two provinces in eastern in Canada but only Ontario has passed laws changing DST and so changes can't be made until after Quebec also changes its DST rules officially.

2. Mexico (the Mexican government has not passed legislation enacting any DST changes)

3. Indiana's DST changes (the information found was too late to make it into the patches because the US Federal DoT was still deciding on how to split Indiana into the central and eastern time zones and it was difficult to get information from them).

There should be another set of tztab patches in late 2006 or early 2007 that will contain changes for Indiana, Canada and Mexico.

Well, they may have said the patches are available, but I just searched the patch DB and none of those patch IDs are showing up yet.

Re: March 2006 AUTHORIZED ITRC issues thread

I think this is a great place to post that stuff Jeff.

I repeat my request: Moderators please monitor and act on this thread.

I have made some posts in recent days that have hurt my relationship with ITRC, specifically Dan and Cheryl. I publically and sincerely apologize. I have had the offending content removed.

I take responsibility for these lapses and merely post this explanation link so that people understand the emotional stress that led to these lapses.

My last post.

Re: March 2006 AUTHORIZED ITRC issues thread

One thing to keep in mind is that the 'moderators' on these forums are not dedicated solely to the ITRC in their job functions. Their primary jobs within HP are outside the ITRC itself. For them, assisting us here is more extra-curricular. BTW, I also prefer this monthly thread. It's easier to find a timeline of events with problems that affect usage of the site.

Eric - that was well put (as are Melvyn's posts at (http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=1010255 )

It is also a good segue to announced that my job function within HP has changed and as such I am no longer lead moderator. I will resume contributing and moderating when time permits, whenever that may be.

Cheryl,

I'm sincerely sorry to see you go. I think you did an excellent job and hope you've accepted the apologies for my misdeeds, in ITRC and email.

Great work to the team, even when we disagree, this ITRC user loves you all.

Thank You.

This does beg the question, though:

Re: March 2006 AUTHORIZED ITRC issues thread

Hi,

I did see recently one thread in the Servers,Integrity forum was removed. Although I didn't own it, but I did reply it. I am just wondering why it was removed and I have seen such thing happened for couple of times.

If the thread is against the ITRC policy or it is not to be made public etc. then I guess it should be shown as locked by moderator ( new feature ) and the owner should be notified by email about the reason. Is it possible?

Hi Steven,

Thanks for starting nice thread, In user profile "* Country or Region" some countries like Pakistan, Bangladesh etc are not listed.

When I am trying to change the information in "modify Forums profile" I got the following error message...

"The Forums user name you specified is already in use.

I think something similar must've been the last words of interex.

Re: March 2006 AUTHORIZED ITRC issues thread

Florian,

The difference concerning Interex is the refused to see the collision course HP put them on when they created their competitive forum. I'm told on good authority they were offered a chance to collaborate with HP on their little show.

Interex decided to remain on a collision course with HP.

I'm not on a collision course with HP. I can pick up my phone and call my rep and make it known that as a customer that spends a great deal of money with HP we're not happy with the way forums is being run. That is not a collision course, or the Interex course, that's using the the influence I have. Collectively if we all contacted our HP reps and asked for change A or change B at HP, it would probably happen.

I say this because collectively the memberhsip of ITRC forums represents several hundred million dollars at a minimum in revenue to HP every year.

There is nothing wrong with through legitmate means using ones influence.

I don't understand your Interex reference at all. HP is not in the habit of telling their customers, hey go buy IBM servers and software. In fact everywhere I've worked, HP has worked hard to keep business and been very helpful in meeting our enhancement requests.

Enjoy the forums and enjoy the threads.
