Maximum number of open files - MySQL

I'm trying to install MySQL - which isn't working yet. When I run the installation script for the tables I get the following error message:

Installing all prepared tables
010423 11:09:07 Warning: setrlimit couldn't increase number of open files
to more than 200
010423 11:09:07 Warning: Changed limits: max_connections:
100 table_cache: 64
scripts/mysql_install_db[284]: 15102 Memory fault(coredump)
Installation of grant tables failed!

Someone from a MySQL newsgroup says this looks more like an OS problem than MySQL. Is it? Is there a way of changing the the maximum number of open files, or could the problem lie somewhere else? I am using an HP/UX 10.20 series 785.

Thank you,
Pete

Hi,

It might do - but you need to tell me how :-) I'm not an expert on these things!

Re: Maximum number of open files - MySQL

Hello,

start SAM, goto Kernel Configuration, Tuneable Parameters.
Check the following (just from my mind, check the list/documentation for exact spelling)

maxfiles, nfiles, ninode, maxfiles_lim, nflocks

Adjust them, rebuild the kernel and reboot.

Thanks, I think I'll have to carry on with this thread in the sys admin group. It seems more appropriate now.
