Re: media exceeded maxmounts

Hi Sunny,

What kind of BackUp software are you using?

maxmount could be the max number of times a tape could be used/mounted.......

Re: media exceeded maxmounts

veritas netbackup 5.0 / 6.0?

-maxmounts max_mounts
Maximum number of mounts allowed for this volume. Only used for non-cleaning media.

http://www.symantec.com/enterprise/support/knowledge_base.jsp?searchText=&pid=15143&x=12&y=6

and search for maxmounts

Re: media exceeded maxmounts

Robert,

If maxmount is the max number of times a tape could be used.......

then can the tape be used further?

and if maxmount is the max number of times a tape could be mounted......

then does it mean that the tape is already mounted or there is a limit for the number of times a tabe coul be mounted.

i hope i am clear.

Good question, you have to ask the manufacturer of your tapes. If i'm not mistaken the HP advice is to use them max 200 times (LTO).

/usr/openv/volmgr/bin/vmchange [-h volume_database_host] -maxmounts max_mounts -m media_id

Re: media exceeded maxmounts

Hi Robert,

This server also uses netbackup to backup some SUN system

also will i get such errors when the tape gets damaged because it has been mounted many times.
