Memory Carrier in a K-Class

I need to know whether a memory carrier is installed in our K-Class servers. The servers may not be rebooted or shutdown - so opening the cabinets for a physical inspection is not an option.

Is there a command or utility (like STM) from which I can determine whether the carrier is installed or not? If it is installed, there might or might not be memory installed in any of the carrier slots.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Re: Memory Carrier in a K-Class

You can use cstm :
#cstm
cstm>map
look at the first coloum (dev Num) what row number of memory ?
(assume that the row number of your memory is 10)
cstm>sel device 10
cstm>info
cstm>infolog

You can see any information of your memory installed such as total memory, error log, and slot/memory carrier curently used.

thanks..hope this can solve your problem

Re: Memory Carrier in a K-Class

Hi:

You can use 'stm' if you have loaded OnlineDiag from the Support Plus CD (/SD_CDROM/DIAGNOSTICS/B.11.00 or /SC_CDROM/DIAGNOSTICS/B.10.20). If I recall correctly, the installation of this product will require a reboot, however.

You can pop off the front plastic cover (remove the key ;-> ) from the front of the system with the power on. Then look on the left hand side for one or two pair of dimples sticking out of holes. Each pair represents one memory carrier.

Re: Memory Carrier in a K-Class

STM will only show a second memory carrier if its actually got some SIMMS installed onto it. By default, all K's will have only 1 memory carrier. Almost certain yours wont have a second one because nobody bothers to think ahead an oder a part costing several thousand dollars which they might need one day.

Only way to see otherwise if pull off the front cover and take a look with a torch behind the panel, or you can actually remove the plate in front of the memory carriers while the server is still up, this will tell you for sure.
