migration from Disk Partitioning to LVM

Hi!

Anyone knows if it's possible to migrate from Disk Partitioning to LVM without changing the Operative Sytem version (v.10.20) and without reinstalling it?

Thanks

Re: migration from Disk Partitioning to LVM

Hi,

If this is a data disk you are talking about, you can do so, backup the data, recreate the lvm info on the disk and then restore the data. If your root disk is Disk partitioned, to move the root to LVM, you have to reinstall the OS.

Hope this helps.

Re: migration from Disk Partitioning to LVM

Hi,

yes you can do it for non-root disk. For Root disk, you may need to reload the OS. For data disk you can backup the data, then use LVM for that disk.

Re: migration from Disk Partitioning to LVM

If you have a (temporary) spare disk, it is also possible for the root disk. If you have it, see the (Series 800) HP-UX *9.X* System Administration Tasks manual on how to do this.

I agree with Frank. When you update form 09.xx to 10.xx change to LVM was recomended and the process was automatic.
