Re: Migration from "open spool" to "dazzle" unix spooler

I think you mean Dazel.

Openspool was supported by HP-Openview. It was never ported past 11.0, and they quit supporting it several years ago. HP was encouraging openspool users to migrate to Dazel. We used openspool, but decided not to port to Dazel because it was so expensive, and using it in our environment was going to be like killing an ant with a sledge hammer.

Documentation about openspool can be found on the openview site at:
http://ovweb.external.hp.com/lpe/doc_serv/

Dazel is now know as "HP Output Management". Information about it can be found at:
http://www.hp.com/united-states/outputmanagement/support.html

Since the link to "HP Output Management" manuals redirects you to the Software Update Manager, it looks like you need a support contract to get these manuals.

Re: Migration from "open spool" to "dazzle" unix spooler

We had to replace Openspool as well.

We checked out a couple third party offerings (OMPlus and EasySpooler) and finally settled on OMPlus (Digital Controls).

Since all our developers used the 'np' command to print, we simply wrote a little wrapper that converted the np command to OMPlus's dcc command.....it made the switch over transparent to the developers and end users.
They gave us good support and it went quick and clean.

Hope it helps,
Rita
