A new to HP-UX unix sys admin has set up mirroring for the internal disks (vg00) of a new system. However the first lv of the mirror disk is a customised lv and not lvol1. I always understood that lvol1 should be the first mirror.
Is this still true ? What "problems" might it cause on the first boot disk failing?

SolutionThe correct order of the lvols for the boot disks is:
lvol1 /stand
lvol2 swap+dump
lvol3 /
If you don't follow this, then your system wont boot because in the boot sequence the kernel will not be found. You need to move the customized lv before you make the mirror in the correct way. Another thing more, if you wanto to mark a disk as bootable, you must initialize it with a pvcreate -B for the boot space reservation.
