Hi there.
Here we go again for this :
The elder the boys are, the bigger the toys grow. I think, a lot of people in the positions we work, love playing and games.
Another guess is, that many of us read SciFi and Fantasy books, love computer gamesand do things, where other people say 'Oh no'?

Re: More Forums Members Make ITRC Highlights!

Ah, my name in lights, if only in a post. Thanks Dan for the reference.

Just don't put a picture of me in there.

When people have accomplishments, they should be recognized at least by their peers, just as the point system does. People need their 15 minutes of fame.

We are not here to impress, just to instruct.

Michael,

the big one that got away, .... you know, it was very dark, the flash did not work, I got water on the camera, .... short story, no pic of the one that got away :-)

But I can provide you the trout and a 14 pound cod as a pic.

Thanks for this thread Dan, I feel very honoured!

Wow Volker. Those are some nice fish! I'm jealous now. I've not been fishing in years. Oh well.

Volker,

As your quote
"But I can provide you the trout and
a 14 pound cod as a pic."

One interesting question: Are you the
trout or cod??

Just kidding.... man them some good fish!

and the Ents (JRRT/middle earth) love us for not using paper.

more on topic: i think Ramesh's comment about wishing this was here when he started highlights something i hope other people my age that might stumble across this (or have it pointed out to them by their boss) keep in mind: we are starting our in this field and have many and varied backgrounds. no matter how trivial a question may seem theonly way to learn is to ask for help, and this provides people with some degree of anonimity, so it's probably a better place to ask than your co-workers.

problems like the netscape one i was having and hte up arrow seemed to me like things that should be trivial enough that i would be laughed at instead of answered. as it turned out the netscape problem was not trivial and it deals with a netscape file, which one i still am not sure of. this one with the arrow key has gotten response of commands i doubt i'd have come across otherwise. by asking even those questions, as well as by looking at others asked when i have a few minutes of free time waiting for something to compile or such, i am learning a lot from the expirience that others are willing to share. it's places like this that encourage that and encourage the pursuit of knowledge (G-d knows the public school system, at the least in the USA, is dead-set against that), that will allow my generation (those just starting out) and those after it to make progress when the one before us (those ready to retire) step down.

-Josh

ps: to those that are constantly helping others, thanks for sharing your invaluable wealth of knowledge with us. i doubt you truely get the recognition you deserve.
