Mounting a users home directory on a Windows PC

Hi,

I am wondering if it is possible to configure a users home directory on a hpux 11 server to also be available as a network directory on the users Windows PC?

Regards,

Yes, look into a free HP product called CIFS/9000 aka Samba. Plan B (and generally not as good): get an NFS client for your PC and export the directory via NFS.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Hi A. Clay,

Thanks for the help on this.

Is this complicated to configure? Does it come with an example config?

If you are a UNIX guy, NFS is more familiar and straightforward but Samba is rather easy to configure as well. The biggest hurdle for UNIX types is learning the conventions associated with that extremely advanced operating system created somewhere in the northwestern regions of the US.

Here's a link to the documentation:

Any child on the streets of Starkville should be able to configure Samba.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Hi Aidan,

Some other useful info related to CIFS/Samba configuration: SWAT is a web-based tool to allow you to modify the config. There's also a useful O'Reilly book - Using Samba.

Darren.

Aidan,
I would recommend SAMBA and it is not any complicated to configure and easy to use.

Re: Mounting a users home directory on a Windows PC

As Clay said - use HP's SAmba (CIFS).

By default, it shares home dirs.

Easy to setup and configure.
