Moved on 2 years ago....

Hi everyone,

Well, after 23 years working at Hewlett-Packard, I've decided to accept an Early Retirement offer from HP. The decision was difficult as I have many, many friends at HP, and learned a lot over those many years. I was very privileged to have met both Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard as well as presidents Lew Platt and Carly Fiorina, and know that HP is in good hands to lead the industry in new technology and customer service.

I won't be relaxing on the settin' porch, sippin' an RC Cola as there are many opportunities for me to pursue. I have a book
on HP Unix to finish, and several people have asked if I can help with some HP Unix projects. I'll continue to support Interex and the regional and national user groups and continue to help when I can with questions in the HP Web Forums.

And of course, my afterhours job as a Disc Jockey and entertainer will benefit from some extra time to develop new skills. Who knows? I may have to work fulltime as a DJ if this computer fad ever goes away 8-)

Re: Moved on 2 years ago....

Just to clarify...I'm not leaving the industry, just HP. I'll still be doing consulting in the HP-UX area so I'll be here in the Forums regularly as well as at HP World in September.

OMG... this is the end of an era.

Bill, I have been reading your writings on usenet since '97 (and know you started posted there long before that) and on this forum since last year. Heck, I've even got you sig-quoted:

(not too sure how that's going to come out)

Your contributions have been helpful and appreciated. You will be missed. Best of Luck in your future.

Hello,

I am glad that you are going to be able to enjoy more freedom to do other things; I can absolutely not wait for that book to be published. I'm glad that you will be still lurking about in these forums to provide the world-class assistance you are known for. If I ever get an opportunity to get to an HP World, I'll look you up.

See ya!

Hi Bill:

I suppose that HP is going to find out whether
"You can be replaced by a small shell script..."; somehow, I think not.

I'm glad you are still going to be in the HP-UX arena and still active in the Forums. I look fowrard to seeing you at HPWorld this year and in the years to come.

Best wishes, Clay

Re: Moved on 2 years ago....

Bill,

I understood the distinction as you pointed it out.

However, I'm still saddened - not that we'll miss you here on the forums or at HPWorld or other Interex gatherings - I'm saddened that one of the shining examples of what the Hewlett Packard Co. can do best is "moving on".

Best of luck to you,
Pete

Hey Bill,

Enjoy your extended "time-off".
You've certainly earned it!

Are you going to bring your turntable & headphones to the HP-World speech? =^)
Or just do a little soft-shoe?

Cheers,
Jeff

Well, I know your lack of presence at HP will be felt. But I am glad to hear that your presence will continue here and at the other support sites.

I look forward to seeing you at HPWorld in LA.

Re: Moved on 2 years ago....

Hi Bill:

I have a lot of friends working for HP, some of them have already left HP, but I never know people like you who worked for HP for so long time, 23 years, my god! I believe it is a hard decision for you, but on the other hand, it is not a bad choice. Good luck for your future!

Happy to know you are not leaving this industry and you are still here!

Take care!

That sounds sweet "early retirement" ! I'm just glad you'll still be around in this forum and doing HP-UX consulting on your own. Just don't forget to let us know when your book is out. Best wishes to you !

Re: Moved on 2 years ago....

Well Bill,

I must say that you will be sorely missed. I have heard you speak numerous times and have always learned something from it. It is good to hear that you won't be leaving the industry completely. I, as well as many others I'm sure, look forward to your continued, if irregular, presence on the Forums.

Are you and David Totsch going to continue to do the "Bill and Dave show" at HP World? I hope so.

Congratulations and enjoy your retirement from HP. Whoever you work for in the future will benefit GREATLY from your experience.

Appreciate all the time you've managed to devote to the forums. I've learned a lot from you. Glad you're still going to be active in the industry and etc. Look forward to studying the book when it's done.

(I've already lost some data, so I'm in your first group?)

Best regards

Bad News - Good News,

bad for us, but good for you, I guess (and for the latter I do hope).
Now it is even worse for me to not be able to attend your (last?) training at HP world :-(

Anyway, only the best wishes for the life in front of you (now that you will get more life than before, I assume ;-)

Kind regards,
