Bill,

Happy Trails!

Since you won't be an HP employee anymore, I'll try not to run you over at HP World this year... (I almost ran into you twice last year and flattened you...)

Re: Moved on 2 years ago....

Oh no ...
One of the people here (who has been here herself for > 20 years) calls you "the living legend". You've helped her so many times (through forums, newsgroups, ...) she won't even estimate HOW many. Hell, you've helped me so many times (during the last year) I won't even estimate HOW many :-) !

And now my chances of ever meeting the "living legend" have been seriously reduced :-(

Do finish that book ... and I'll move heaven and earth to get two signed copies (if you're willing to sign some that is :-) !

Enjoy your retirement Bill ...
Tom :-)

Re: Moved on 2 years ago....

Well Bill, on behalf of everyone, I'd like to say thanks for being such a wonderful guide and inspiration to all of us in the forums (and I readily acknowledge that there are many others out these who are just as deserving of such praise). I'm sure that HP will have to go a long way to find someone to fill your shoes (or, round here should that be hat????).

Of course, now that you've "retired", I'm sure you'll find even more time that you can spend on here, helping to prevent us all from running round in a mindless panic.

I'm sure that with just the following you have here, that your book will be a major success.

Here's to hoping that we can all become just half as successful as you are.

Chris.

Hi Bill,

Certainly HP's loss... Glad to see that you will continue in your personal endeavours and still hang around in here from time to time.

Please, please let us know when the book is completed, we will need a few autographed copies for the land down under. Once yours hits the market, the rest *WILL* be gathering dust....

Good luck with your future wherever that may take you!

Cheers

Re: Moved on 2 years ago....

Bill:

I said it in a private note, and I will say it again here, publically ... I have mixed emotions -- jealousy, loss, frustration, JEALOUSY. It has been a distinct pleasure to share a public speaking spotlight with you, moreover, to count you as a friend.

I would wish you happiness, but I know that you will manufacture your own as you go (Bill volunteers for the Special Olympics). I would wish you success, but I know that you will continue to exceed your own measures (too many to list here, but I know your retirement will be anything but quiet -- Bill the party guy DJ). I would wish you health, but you have that, too (Bill runs marathons through wilderness). I would wish you peace, but you take that with you wherever you go (and have a nack for spreading it). I would wish you love, but the responses to this posting attest to how much you are loved.

Bill, live long, because I know you will contine to profoundly touch the lives of indviduals inside and outside of the HP-UX community.

Bill

Good luck with your endevours. It sounds to me that you will be doing anything but retire.

As for your personal quote.... it's true, I have been replaced by a small shell script, the irony being that I wrote it of my own free will!

Good luck again

Re: Moved on 2 years ago....

Now that is sad news. Still - are HP offering such good terms for early retirement ? I must speak to my boss.

As soon as the book is done please let us know - I would love a copy. Its great you will still be around on the forums to adjuticate over certain arguments/statements of fact where it comes to HP-UX:-)

Cheers,

Stefan

I never really understood how you found time to get your job done in any case Bill!! I suppose it's good news for all our forum users, now that you'll be able to spend an extra 40 or so hours a week more here!
So, you didn't get to meet the ledgendary Bill McNamara yet? ;) Shame, maybe at one of your DJ'ing shindigs!

Best of luck in the future, whereever it brings you!

All the best,
Bill

Hi Bill,

I think it is a great loss for HP. I think they can only take consolation that you will continue to contribute invaluable advice and assistance to the forums and Interex.

I am glad that you are continuing in the forums because I always enjoy your information and expertise.

All the best in your future endeavours. I am sure you will continue to be a hotly sought-after consultant and the envy of many. :-)

Best regards.

Re: Moved on 2 years ago....

Bill,

I'm glad we at least had a chance to meet once (at the RC when I was doing FOL work a few years back).

I'm sad for us because I feel HP has lost another not-so-little piece of what made us great.

On the other hand, I'm really happy for you! You got out with a good package and I'm sure that job-hunting for you will be like browsing the resort brochures for some of us, trying to decide what looks like the most fun & interesting...

Anyway, thanks for all the great tips & tricks, tools and assistance over the years -- we'll miss you here.

...And I'll look forward to keeping up on where your career takes you, in your forum posts or email messages.

All the best!

Dave

Now that Bill (Hassell) is 'leaving'/'retiring', I might as well reveal the secret:

I can't believe that you 'guys' fell for it! Did you *really* believe that the entity known as "Bill Hassell" was just one person!? Come on! There is *no* way that one person could do all those things *and* have a family *and* have a life *and* ... ad infinitum. While I must be Frank and admit that I have never actually seen multiple Bill's at the same time (i.e. like Santa Clauses or Dutch Sinterklaases), they're not fooling me, no siree!

So, now you know The Real Truth. I am sure that it hurts, like it hurted when you found out about Santa, but you'll get over it.

Frank,

I knew it!!! There's no way that just one Bill Hassell could have that many crazy Hawaiian shirts.
