Moving Oracle8 from Solaris 2.6 to HPUX 11.0

We are migrating Oracle 8 from a SUN Solaris 2.6 hardware platform to a HP HPUX
11.0 platform. I would like to know if anyone has done this type of migration
without using import/export, and if there were any problems? We plan on using
Sterling Software's Alexandira to do the store/restore.

Hi Scott:

Export/import is the only supported way for plataform migration.

I dont knwow anything of Sterling Software's Alexandira, but all work must pass
through an Oracle?s instance. Phisycal copy (like dd) is not supported to make
this work.

Carlos,

Because Oracle 8 running on these two platforms will not be binary compatible,
I can confirm you will only be able to accomplish this task via an
export/import exercise.

Beware however - HP-UX 11 comes in two flavours - 32Bit and 64Bit. We have
recently upgraded from 32Bit Oracle 8.0.5.2.1 to the 64Bit variant and required
HP's ANSI C compiler to achieve this - note that the ANSI C Compiler is does
NOT come with HPUX by default - it is a separate option. If you are using 64Bit
HPUX and 64Bit Oracle 8 already, you may not have a problem - but it is
definitely worth checking out!
