We have one hp unix server (10.20) configured as our internal mail server.( PHNE_18979 B.10.00.00.AA sendmail(1m) 8.9.3 cumulative patch.).
Now we want to move all the sendmail configuratios and settings to RHEL AS 4.0 server.
Would somebody tell us what is the procedure and steps to follow for that?
Waiting for reply..
regards,
C.Sacthivel

SolutionWill you use sendmail, postfix, qmail, or some other MTA? The choice you make here will determine what to do.
Whichever MTA you decide on, you should read its documentation. You should gain a lot of knowledge there.

Re: Moving sendmail from hp unix to linux
I am not a sendmail or HP-UX guru, but in my porting of sendmail from HP-UX 11.x to Linux in the past, I found very few (if any) differences in the configurations (although they were not overly complex configurations to start with).
If I were you, I would look at what upgrading your sendmail configuration from HP-UX 10.20 to 11.x would involve, then porting that 11.x configuration to Linux.
Just a suggestion, hope it helps.

Re: Moving sendmail from hp unix to linux
most hardware that runs 10.20 won't be supported much beyond 11.0 althought 11.23 might be available work.
I'd just move the config onto linux and give it a shot.

Re: Moving sendmail from hp unix to linux
The configuration files are named differently.
sendmail.mc has another name in HP-UX, but you can find it.
You may not want to take things parameter by parameter from 10.20 to Linux.
Linux has a more modern sendmail version with lots of security features that you may find useful.
I would use the sendmail.cf/mc configuration as a guide. sendmail.mc has a version and os line in Linux which you do not want to change.
