Multiple lpsched processes

I have multiple lpsched processes running on my HP-UX, Version 11.0

I've ran the /sbin/init.d/lp stop to stop and then restart lpsched but the multip lpsched processes start up again.

Here's ps output for the lp user:

Recommendations to get it down to only one lpsched process running?

Thanks in advance...

Re: Multiple lpsched processes

First do:

# /sbin/init.d/lp stop

Now,

# ps -ef | grep lp

Look for any remaining lpsched or other lp processes and kill them. The lpsched processes I see on your system are from August 12, so they are leftover from a couple of weeks ago. Once you kill those, restart lp and see what happens.

Re: Multiple lpsched processes

You should have at most one lpsched process running. Do an lpshut. Next look for any /var/spool/lp/SCHEDLOCK and /var/spool/lp/*FIFO* files and remove them. Next do a ps -ef | grep "lp" and kill any lp processes. You should also kill any remaining hpnpf JetDirect processes. These will occasionally hang.

After this, a normal lpsched should leave with with exactly one lpsched process running.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: Multiple lpsched processes

Thanks both... Will follow your recommendations tomorrow and we'll see if they come back. Won't forget to kill the processes and remove the files.

Thanks again...

Re: Multiple lpsched processes

Oh yeah... I'll assign points tomorrow after the process is back up.

Re: Multiple lpsched processes

Try using 'lpshut' to stop the lp scheduler and to start it by 'lpsched' command
