Multiple O.S in a Machine

Hi all,

Is it possible to have more than one O.S in N class servers, like in superdome?

If so,what we need for that?

Thanks & Regards

Re: Multiple O.S in a Machine

You need the HP-UX Virtual Partitions software, product number T1335AC.

You could use virtual partition.

Re: Multiple O.S in a Machine

There is no support in N class systems for hardware partitions, but you can have virtual (software) partitions:

Re: Multiple O.S in a Machine

Virtual partition software is required but you also have to have a minimum hardware set. I am not sure of the exact requirements other than at least two NICs. I would suggest that you contact your HP rep and get the exact requirements now that you know that it is possible.
If it has wheels or a skirt, you can't afford it.

Re: Multiple O.S in a Machine

Also it depends what you mean by 'more than one OS'

If you mean can I have two copies of HPUX 11i (11.11)running different apps at different patch levels then the answer is yes (as mentioned above, using vPARs)

If you mean can I have 11.00 on one partition and 11i (11.11) on another the answer is NO you can't.

And if the equestion was can I run Linux or Windows in the other partition, then the answer is a even more definate NO for the time being at least... but see this:

Re: Multiple O.S in a Machine

Hi,

Yes, N -class (rp7400) support virtual partiotions(vpar) using this you can have multiple OS's (max 7 in rp7400), whereas in superdome you can have npartions over which you have vpartitions
never give up

Re: Multiple O.S in a Machine

Should also have mentioned that the replacement for the N class (the rp7410) does allow you to do hardware partitioning a la superdome... but there are only two cell boards, hence a maximum of two partitions.
