network printer under HP-UX 11.11

Hello,

Excuse me for my English, but I'm French.

I bought a printer laserjet 2500n with a card jetdirect 615 to install in a network made up of 15 machines B2600 700/985 functioning under HP-UX 11.11.

I must create an application which must make it possible to a user to configure address IP, the subnet mask, ... of the printer network laserjet 2500n.

IP addresses of my machines start with 139.30.
After having installed the printer, its address IP by defect was positioned into 169.254.6.132.

When I use a command "ping 169.254.6.132" from one of the 15 machines, the order fails, which is normal.

How to make to detect and change the parameters of the printer network without using SAM and the software HP JetDirect Printer Installer ?

Hi Christophe,

I think you have to telnet to the printer.
I don't know if 'telnet ip-address' will work without changes at your workstations, because ping doesn't work.

Do you have the ip address of the printer in your /etc/hosts?

Maybe it works if you change subnet_mask to 0.0.0.0?

I don't know the 2500n, but probably you can configure the printer from its control panel.
Give it a correct address (and subnetmask), or enable bootp/dhcp if you have such a server in the network.
Then you will be able to connect using telnet.

New printers will use DHCP to define their IP address. If this is a used printer you can do a printer reset.

Once the IP address is determined, you can use http://ip to configure the printer.

All JetDirect cards come with a default address which you can use with telnet (192.0.0.192). You can also telnet to the defective address. HOWEVER, you can only telnet to that address if you are on the same subnet. Since subnet mask and router information is not set correctly, it is much simpler to perform a cold-reset of the JetDirect card. Then you can telnet to the card and set the addresses that way. Any PC with a recent version of the JetDirect installer software can also setup the card.
