New Disk showing as Not Setup

We have added some new SCSI disk to the server that are are going to use in a VxVM Volume Group, The ioscan shows disk fine:
disk 15 0/4/1/0.9.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE ModusLnkMXJ3147SC800600X
/dev/dsk/c4t9d0 /dev/rdsk/c4t9d0
disk 17 0/4/1/0.10.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE ModusLnkMXJ3147SC800600X
/dev/dsk/c4t10d0 /dev/rdsk/c4t10d0
disk 18 0/4/1/0.11.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE ModusLnkMXJ3147SC800600X
/dev/dsk/c4t11d0 /dev/rdsk/c4t11d0
disk 16 0/4/1/0.12.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE ModusLnkMXJ3147SC800600X
/dev/dsk/c4t12d0 /dev/rdsk/c4t12d0

but when I do a vxdisk list one of the new drives shows as Error:

DEVICE TYPE DISK GROUP STATUS
c2t0d0 simple rootdisk01 rootdg online
c2t1d0 simple rootdisk02 rootdg online
c4t1d0 simple - - LVM
c4t2d0 simple - - LVM
c4t3d0 simple - - LVM
c4t4d0 simple - - LVM
c4t5d0 simple - - LVM
c4t6d0 simple - - LVM

c4t11d0 simple - - online invalid
c4t12d0 simple - - online invalid
c4t13d0 simple - - online invalid

Is there something I need to do to resolve the issue with this disk ?

Re: New Disk showing as Not Setup

hi mikel;

after assigning to a server , you need to start by vxdisksetup -i c4t9dxx ( your disk name ) to label it.

Re: New Disk showing as Not Setup

I'm not that familiar with VxVM, but I guess this is normal for uninitialized disks.
The disks are not prepared for any volume manager yet.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: New Disk showing as Not Setup

Use vxdiskadm to add disks under vxvm control - http://docs.hp.com/en/5187-1369/ch02s06.html

Re: New Disk showing as Not Setup

I can Initialize all the disk added without any problems except for c4t9d0, It comes back telling me:

Disk c4t0d0 has Disabled Paths

Any Ideas ?

Re: New Disk showing as Not Setup

Mike,

I would first try to remove/readd the disk in vxdiskadm to solve the error state of the disk/lun.

Otherwise you could try
# vxdctl enable
