New drive not found by ioscan or SAM

We recently purchased some refurb drives for our Jamaica boxes. 11i (K460) doesn't see them, 10 (K220) doesn't see them but Linux (PC) does. The drives are IBM Ultrastar 36LZX. Do I need to IN instead of OUT a particular driver for IBM drives (seagates work fine) or what?

Thanx

Your fundamental problem is that your K-Box expects only HVD (High-Voltage Differential) SCSI unless you are connecting to a 28655 SE-SCSI controller.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

OK, I finally got a 28655A SE controller which ioscan sees fine but when I insert IBM Ultrastar 9GB or Ultrastar 36GB - nothing. I even tried setting the "force SE" jumper on the drives.

What now?

Thanx again.

well the probability here is that the firmware on the drives is not known by HP-UX, nor SAM, hence it cannot be determined as to which driver they need.
These are not supported drives, to my knowledge

Re: New drive not found by ioscan or SAM

Gregory,
I think your issue is a SCSI cable/adapter. This K-class SE board has SE 50pin HD connector, but IBM disk should have 68pin LVD one.
Anyway, I do not think it's a good idea to connect LVD devices to SE board - they all become SE with usual limitations: 5mb/s, 6 meters max bus length.
I agree with Melvyn. Firmware issues usually seen in PDC, which really does not support booting for disks having non-HP firmware, but hpux OS should have no problems with such disks. But one note: 28655A is an old HP-PB card using old scsi1 and lpr2 drivers, and this also may cause issues ith these large new HDDs.
Generally if you need to attach more storage to K-server then you can check if HVD10 enclosures are still available at the reseller's

Re: New drive not found by ioscan or SAM

I think yo need to decide whether you want your HP systems to work or not. If you want them to work right, you'll need standardized, certified hardware. I'm sure you can get lots of other hardware to work, but would you run a mission critical system like that.

I wouldn't.

Put the drives in the Linux box where they'll work.
