NEW DRIVES

Hey guys and gals.
I am having EMC assign 15 new drives to one of my boxes. He claims I don't have to shutdown my HP system which I don't doubt. If I don't see my drives on the HP, can I run a 'insf' and will this help me see my drives and do I need a special flag with the insf?

Thanks,
Bob

Re: NEW DRIVES

insf -C should do the trick.

use lsdev to see what driver the EMC disks are using.

If you're simply assigning MORE disks, then this should work as the driver will already be loaded in the kernel.

Re: NEW DRIVES

hey,

u can try with insf with '-e' option. This will check for all I/O and will install the special files ..

Re: NEW DRIVES

HI
Once EMC installs the drives, use the EMC utility #inq, to confirm the LUNs are seen by host. Then run #insf -e and #ioscan -fnC disk.

Couple of time I ran in to trouble with new drives and was required to run ioscan/insf command twice to see the devices.

Thanks.
Prashant.

Re: NEW DRIVES

I never trust an 'inq' to see the updates to the Symm after the addition of drives or after any changes that EMC comes out to make. Just to be safe, execute 'symcfg discover' after any changes are made from EMC. This will ensure that your inqs and other symm related commands will see the most up to date info. I always just ioscan -fnC disk after assigning drives to a given host. Then you can see where they are. Then just do an 'insf -e' to insert your special files and you will be in business. I hope that this helps.
