New LAN card installed, not recognized by server.

We installed a new LAN card in a L2000 server. (HP-UX 11.0). When I run 'ioscan' to
view the device it displays the following:
"0/2/0/0 unknown PCI Ethernet (10110019)"
The other three LAN cards that were previously installed display "lan" for their
devices. An 'ioscan -fkC lan' command does not show the device at all.
Any ideas as to what I need to do to have the server recognize the new LAN card?

You can configure and activate the card in SAM. Run SAM and goto Networking and Communications. Then select Network Interface Cards. Highlight the lan card you wish to enable. Then goto Actions. You can then assign an IP address and activate the card.
It's a binary world!

you should add driver btlan3 in your hp-ux kernel. You can use SAM to do this

Hi,

because you say it's a PCI card you should add the driver btlan5 and/or btlan6 into your kernel (by SAM).

Actually, if this is the built in PCI, the btlan3 driver should have been loaded with the OS. I would suggest you load the correct patches for this card:
All are PHNE_
21682, 21687, 21217, 20316, 21767 and 21433.

Re: New LAN card installed, not recognized by server.

Hi,
Thanks for the responses.
Here is some additional information.

When I run 'SAM' and goto "Networking and Communications" under "Network Interface Cards" the new LAN card does not show up, it only lists the other three LAN cards.

The other three LAN cards have the drivers "btlan3" and "btlan6" already assigned.

I must assume that the two drivers "btlan/3&6" are already in the kernel.

Berlene made the suggestion that I should load patches for this LAN card.

I ran 'swlist -l fileset/product | grep and the six patches that were recommended are not loaded.

HP mentioned that the new LAN card is a different model then the other three LAN cards.

I will assume that the new LAN card needs a different driver.
I will install the patches and see what happens.

Thanks again Gino.

Re: New LAN card installed, not recognized by server.

To find out what btlan driver is needed, run

#ioscan -fkC lan

Re: New LAN card installed, not recognized by server.

#what /stand/vmunix | grep btlan

this will report what btlan drivers are in the kernel.

Re: New LAN card installed, not recognized by server.

Hi,

Have to loaded the lan card driver from the 1st cd of the set of application cd that came with the OS.

Hope this helps.
