New Mirror HP-UX software for ITRC members

Hi All,

Not a question but some announcements.

Merijn's/Procura's HP-UX software for ITRC members has got a new VERY FAST mirror, with special THANKS to Clemens van Everdingen and the guys from develooper.com for making this possible.

Furthermore perl-5.8.4-dor built with gcc-3.4.0 has been released on Procura's webpage.

Merijn will fill in the perl/gcc details :-)

Thanks to Steven E Protter, Steven Sim Kok Leong and Clemens for providing the other mirrors, see if we can reduce their bandwidth by using below link in the future.

OK, here we go.

Currently Clemens owns my main machine, which acts as a base for the mirrors. I'm _very_ pleased with the latest mirror which should reduce the load on the other three. PLEASE use the http://mirrors.develooper.com/hpux/ mirror for major downloads, so we have a bigger chance that the others will survive too. To explain: my site took up to 98% of Steven's bandwidth, which is not good.

Yesterday GNU released GNU gcc-3.4.0. The announcement talked about over 900 fixes. I've uploaded the following ports:

gcc-3.4.0 + binutils-2.14 + gdb-6.0

HP-UX 10.20 - pa-risc-1.1 - 32bit pa-1.1
HP-UX 11.00 - pa-risc-2.0 - 32bit pa-2.0
HP-UX 11.00 - pa-risc-2.0 - 64bit elf64
HP-UX 11.11 - pa-risc-2.0 - 32bit pa-2.0
HP-UX 11.11 - pa-risc-2.0 - 64bit elf64

GNU gdb-6.1 does not build on HP-UX (yet). This also reads in it's README or Changelog.

Please be very careful to choose the correct build. (FWIW the HP-UX 10.20 port has proven to work on (some) HP-UX 11.00 pa-risc-1.1 systems)

perl-5.8.4 has been released last midnight MET. Official notice should hit the world by now, but the main changes can be read already on http://search.cpan.org/~nwclark/perl-5.8.4/pod/perl584delta.pod

Both HP-UX 11.00 ports, and the 10.20 port already arrived at the main gate, waiting for develooper, beepz and hpux to sync up.

Again, as of 5.8.2, I only ship _with_ the defined-or patch. See http://perlmonks.thepen.com/294171.html for what that means.

11.11 Is currently building, expect those soon. That system is slow, and I _do_ want to include Tk.

5.8.4 builds include DBI-1.42 and Tk-804.027.

Off course Merijn IMHO gets the greatest credits of us all. Hes is doing for all the perl an gcc users a mighty job.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do cut back the load on beepz.
Now that we have the perl.org mirror, beepz' load should have dropped, but dispite my warnings in all available areas, the load on beepz is still too high: my site takes about 80% of Steven's bandwidth

Now that we *do* have a fast mirror, I think this is unacceptable.
If this continues, I can't but agree with Steven that this site will be discontinued on beepz

And yes, even one single gcc download matters: you are not the only one thinking this way. In May alone, after my quest for the move appeared, the following downloads were made:

Open software is released every day, and today the GNU folk released GNU gcc-3.4.1

The first three builds (for HP-UX 10.20/32, HP-UX 11.00/32, and HP-UX 11.00/64) most likely have arrived on my site by the time you read this.

PLEASE DO NOT USE BEEPZ FOR DOWNLOADING THE NEW BUILDS!

http://mirrors.develooper.com/hpux/ will c atch up pretty fast, and has enough bandwidth to serve you all.

The builds include the also freshly released binutils-2.15 and gdb-6.1.1

Perl 5.8.5 has been released

4 out of 5 builds have been uploaded
There is a small issue with DBD-CSV and bind_columns () under DBI-1.43, which I hope will not do any harm.

HP Porting center has promised 64bit builds of things like openssl, openssh, and expat, which brings me hope in being able to ship 5.8.6 with XML modules and SSL related modules
