New rp5470 Server setup

Dear all,

I would like to tell you that my company just buy a new HP-UX rp5470 Server (OS 11i pre-loaded) for replacing the old HP-UX K260 server. I concern which information I need to setup the new server. (e.g. hostname, IP address, etc...)
Do you have any suggestion? Thanks very much!

Best Regards
Ajk

Re: New rp5470 Server setup

basically if you are going to replace you K to rp server then you will need IP, hostname, network info (route, full/half duplex, dns server, name resolution etc), user & group info, nis if present on K260, fstab, any custom startup script, any special software application, any third party application, jave , perl and things like that.

you will also need to have the disks migrated over to rp5470

BAsically you will need to completely take the inventory of old K260 and try to get everything installed/ configured on new server.

hope this helps...

Re: New rp5470 Server setup

first, you need to search ELECTRIC CHARACTERS of rp5470, and how to configuration your rp5470 system that Disk partion information, swap size, network inforamtion(ip,g/w,,etc).

you can ask all things to your h/w service engineer.

have a good time!!

good luck.
Easy going at all.

Re: New rp5470 Server setup

Hi,
since you are replacing the k server with rp.
assign a different IP to rp5470 server.
when you power on the rp5470 after the boot process, installation process will querry you for network info (IP,hostname, DNS,NIS et al)

when the system is up on network, make the file sysetms identical to that of k server and you can use ftp or rcp to transfer the data from k server to rp5470
never give up

Hi,

tar is the better to copy then ftp or rcp, since it restores file/directory owners and permissions
never give up

Re: New rp5470 Server setup

Choose a new IP address.

When the rp server is ready for production, you can edit /etc/rc.config.d/netconf to change the ip address, and do a reboot to cut over to the new server.

Do this once everything is migrated.

Depending on what you run, the migration process can be huge.

Some applications may need to be upgraded. Our project plant to put three rp servers in production has nearly a thousand steps.

As far as data transfer goes, assuming ther is not migration process, the above posts will do you just fine.
