We're facing some nfs perfomance issues and we're trying to modify some kernel parameters, both servers are HP-UX 11.00.
The parameters we would like to activate are:
nfs_new_lock_code
nfs_new_rnode_lock_code
nfs_wakeup_one
But the last two couldn't be found.
Question is, should we install latest NFS patch to see those 2 kernel parameters?
Thx all 4 your help!

SolutionNormally patches do not add in major features like new kernel parameters.
To get new krenel parameters, normally you need a new OS.
I recommend the latest NFS patches as a possible fix to your performance problem and an upgrade to a supported version of HP-UX 11.11 or above for new kernel paramters.
By upgrade I mean cold install.

Re: NFS Kernel parameters.
You can patch your 11.0 box till the cows come home but you won't get those last 2 tunables. Those were introduced at 11.11, improved upon greatly in 11.23, and obsoleted in 11.31.
We add new NFS kernel parameters to existing releases via patches all the time, which is why we created the following white papers:
Managing NFS and KRPC Kernel Configurations in HP-UX 11i v2 (Oct 2008)
Managing NFS and KRPC Kernel Configurations in HP-UX 11i v3 (Jan 2009)
We update these white papers whenever we ship a new 11.23 patch or 11.31 ISU that adds a new ONC kernel parameter or modifies the behavior of an existing parameter. Both of these papers can be found at:
http://docs.hp.com/en/netcom.html#NFS%20Services
If you can explain what NFS performance issues you're seeing I can try to help, but most likely you're looking at updating these systems to a supported OS. We've made tons of improvements to the NFS client/server in 11.23 and even more in 11.31.
If you're going to upgrade, 11.31 should be your first choice. If your systems are not supported on 11.31 then look into 11.23.

Dave
