nic setting to force traffic out lan1
I have just installed a gig nic card in my server. I want to force certain traffic through it. How do I do this?
100m lan2 ip address 192.1.1.1
1000 lan1 ip address 192.1.2.2
backup server is ip address 192.1.2.5
I want to force backups to use the gig interface?
100m lan2 ip address 192.1.1.1
1000 lan1 ip address 192.1.2.2
backup server is ip address 192.1.2.5
I want to force backups to use the gig interface?

Re: nic setting to force traffic out lan1
I do not know which backup sw you are using. But for example ; give a name to gig e interface in hosts file; say host_gig. Then in your backup sw, you can use the name for backing the host either through DNS or again in hosts file. So every backup will refer to this hostname which is your gig e ip address

Re: nic setting to force traffic out lan1
What is your subnetmask on lan1 and lan2, and is there a lan0 active? It would help to have your netstat -rn output.
Assuming your subnet is at least /24 (aka 255.255.255) (well, perhaps /23 (255.255.254) based on the IP addresses), if your software goes to connect to 192.1.2.5 then all else being equal, traffic should go out 192.1.2.2.
