NIS accounts - password aging/minimum combination & length available?

Hello,

In regards to NIS on an HPUX 11.11 workstation. Is it possible to enable NIS password aging and minimum length/combinations for all our NIS user accounts that have already been set up?

When I look at the NIS accounts under SAM, I don't see any options for forcing password aging even on one user.

Please post back soon.

Thanks - Angie

You can enable passwd aging using something like this:

logins | awk '{if (($2 + 0) >= 101) print $1}' | while read U
do
passwd -x 63 -n 7 ${U}
done

This will set the maximum age to 63 days and 7 days minimum between change for all users with UID >= 101. Man passwd, logins for details. This script should be run on the NIS Master serrver. Next, cd to /var/yp and isuue the comand "make" to update and push the NIS maps.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.
