NIS login problem

Dear all , i have a nis server running 10.2.recently i upgraded few of my workstations to 11.0.but the users who had their login names more than 8 characters are not able to login thru the hpux 11.0 machines.wat is the reasonfor this and how to overcome this.thanks to all in advance.
