Hi,
I'm pretty new to NIS and wondering what would happen if I shutdown the NIS master server.
I have a NIS master that need downtime for some urgent maintenance but I'm not to sure if the whole domain access will be halted or slave can still serve the access authentication and hosts mapping.
Appreciate your input. Thanks.

Re: NIS master server down

Re: NIS master server down
Normally, If the master nis server down, the slave will take over as a master. All hosts will map to slave. You can run ypwhich command from hosts to check which server there are mapping.
