Re: no /etc/shadow file

Shalom,

Be default, they are kept encrypted in /etc/passwd

Welcome to HP-UX.

There is a depot for Shadow Passwords downloadable from http://software.hp.com that will convert your system to use /etc/shadow.

Search the site for Shadow Password

Re: no /etc/shadow file

If you were wanting additional security you could convert the system to "trusted mode".

Re: no /etc/shadow file

All the users are in the /etc/password file. The encrypted password is in the 2nd field in the file.

Re: no /etc/shadow file

Hi!

Yes, if you have not activated the Trusted mode the passwords are encrypted into the /etc/passwd file. With trusted mode, the passwords and settings are separated in a database under the /tcb directory. If you want to convert to trusted mode you can do it by executing /usr/lbin/tsconvert or through SAM too.

Re: no /etc/shadow file

every user has a differend shadow file
/tcb/files/auth/r/root
the /r/ is the fist leter from the user.
