NO_HW state on ioscan output

Hi,
I've just attached a DLT8000 tape drive on my HP9000 D-class server but the ioscan -kfnC tape state="HO_HW". My question is how to activate this tape drive. Thank you.

Re: NO_HW state on ioscan output

NO_HW means the device was connected and powered up - HP-UX could see it, but now it cant. So the connection has been lost. Check power/scsi cables. Once youve checked it and found the problem do the ioscan again and see if it comes back as CLAIMED, then you can use it.

Re: NO_HW state on ioscan output

Well if you were to refer to your previous post on hte DLT800 issue, you would have read quite a few bits of advice on htis.
I gather you have just attached the drive to hte system without a reboot, so what happens if you do ioscan or ioscan -f?
Also, is it at the same address it used to be, or has that changed?
You MAY be forced to do a reboot after all.

Re: NO_HW state on ioscan output

Hi,
First & foremost I don't have the root access, it's under sudo. I can issue ioscan -kfnC, but 'ioscan' alone gave me '/dev/config - permission denied'.
As for the address, I believe it remains as it was before.
Pls. don't tell me I need to reboot the server, they'll definitely kill me.

thx.

Re: NO_HW state on ioscan output

Hi,

Hardware changes are defintely root-jobs. So either rebooting will perform an ioscan for you, or user root has to do this. Sorry.

Good luck
