NO_HW with VLS6500 and 11.31
The VLS is running software 1.1.0.
The VLS's fiber port zero is in a zone by itself with /dev/fcd0 on the HP-UX machine. The VLS picked the HP-UX machine's WWPN off the wire.
I created a new virtual library and a single virtual tape drive, and mapped them to the HP-UX machine.
Ran ioscan on the HP-UX machine, and it picked up the eschgr and estape devices, but they're marked NO_HW.
What's going on?

Re: NO_HW with VLS6500 and 11.31
If the VLS software is not certified for 11.31 it can't help configure drives on that OS.
Check the certification of VLS first.
This might work without VLS with a manual configuration.
insf -C disk
After getting the NO_HW to go away.

Re: NO_HW with VLS6500 and 11.31
Which changes my question:
WHY SHIP AN OS YOU CAN'T BACK UP?
I'm going to have to say that moving to 11.31 so far has been a mistake. I highly recommend nobody else do it. Nothing works with it.

Maybe a firmware or setup problem?
I would open a support call...
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Just wondering what kind of problems you've been running into so far ?
We've been testing it for a couple of weeks since we most likely have customers running it in the near future.
So far with the OS itself we only experienced 'lack' of sam, older version can't read tapes made with fbackup in V3 and the new naming system for disks and tapes.
Not much special so far.
