Hello All,

HP was onsite last week to install/configure VLS 6800 series system. The syslog has been reporting the following
messages since Jan 19. Can you help to figure out what's going on ? Currnetly we are unable to scan our
MSL6000 series ( NO_HW ).

Shalom,

It would appear that you have lost access to an entire network that you were attached to by fiber or scsi. Fiber kind of works like scsi anyway.

What I'd check for is a bad scsi cable or a failed fiber channel adapter.

The last entry clearly indicates a failed fiber channel adapter.

Thanks for the info. We have located a looping ( rebooting ) NSR which has caused devices ( tape ) on other servers to display "NO_HW" also.

Hi,

this usually happens if you replace the NSR, because you have a new WWN (at least for the MSL, it could be different for the MSL and ESLe series).

"-wide name' (unique identifier) for device at nport ID 0x20a00 has changed. If the device has been replaced intentionally, please use the fcmsutil(1M) command's replace_dsk option to allow the new device to be used."

In this case, you should locate the FC card device (/dev/td2) and run

fcmsutil /dev/td2 replace_dsk 0x20a00

and run "ioscan" again.

Now the driver will allow the device to log on. You get the same result if you reboot the server.

Shalom again.

This is looking ugly.

Check the cabling for obvious faults.
Check the link lights on all equipment and that its all powered on.

Check the fiber switch, because it could cause all of these issues if it is failed totally or has a bad port where the down fiber card is connected.
