No utmp entry. You must exec "login" from the lowest level "sh"' received whilst attempting to login serial terminals, very similar to http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,1150,0x637f37f45ef7d4118fef0090279cd0f9,00.html. It had gone away after second login attempt, then it refused to go away until after second reboot, then failed to do so after several reboots and only going away after init -q. Bizarre! Any suggestions?

Read the thread you mentioned....found at this thread that Brad Monks found a solution that worked for him, and maybe will help you too....amazing how simple a solution it was too..
