Re: Not able to start my CDE HP-UX 11.11

Well that docs can guide you properly and plus i would like to tell U something:

try pinging to your hostname.
#ping
#ping localhost

See if ping works. In case you are not able to do that check /etc/hosts file for proper hostname/ip address entries.
Even if see one, try deleting it and creating new one ( May be some unwanted char got inside).

All the best.

Re: Not able to start my CDE HP-UX 11.11

Hi Diva,

Please refer to doc id KBRC00002373 and KBRC00004688 for setting up CDE to run on a standalone configuration.

Hope this helps.

Re: Not able to start my CDE HP-UX 11.11

check the following files for proper entries

/etc/hosts
/etc/resolv/conf
/etc/rc.config.d/netconf

If the above is correct make sure that following is correctly configured

/etc/nsswitch.conf

with the enty:

host: files dns

Hope this helps

Hi Dive,

could you run this command and check for the ERROR messages.

# dr_dt

Re: Not able to start my CDE HP-UX 11.11

If you have an /etc/resolv.conf file, often doing mv /etc/resolv.conf /etc/resolv.conf.old
will solve the problem.
then go into sam and set up the networking to reflect that you just want to search /etc/hosts for name resolution which is necessary for CDE to run.

Hey Diva,
Most times I have come across this, it's been due to a networking misconfiguration ... either /etc/nsswitch.conf or /etc/resolv.conf. However, it could possibly be a setting problem with your profile. Look for a log file in your home directory, maybe /.dt/errlog or /.dt/startlog.
