nPar Re-Claim

I have a nPar'd RP7420 which was split in half. The second nPar turns out is not used, so can I put it back into a single partition without loosing/rebuilding the primary production partition???
I been assuming that I'd have to temp. loose both to rebuild, but not sure. (I didn't build the server) Further assume I'd have to re-ignite the primary. I just want to collapse back to single partition to have more resources.

Re: nPar Re-Claim

Dan,
do you have a second core-io card in the single partition that you would like to remove back to the primary partition ?

each hard par must have a core-io card.. so you might want to remove this card.. in the hard par not being used before you merge anything..

some info from par mgr might here.. can you supply output on both nPars via par mgr command ?

Re: nPar Re-Claim

Hi Dan,

Yes, you can have a single partition without loosing/rebuilding the live partition.

Refer following document link for steps
http://docs.hp.com/en/5991-1247/ch06s05.html?btnPrev=%AB%A0prev

Depending on the version of nPartition commands or Partition Manager you have, you have the option to remove un-used npar in its active or inactive state.

In short, you have to delete the non-required npar, add its cell to live npar, then perform reconfig reboot of live npar.

Just understand the steps given in the above document and do the the activity at a scheduled downtime window.

Re: nPar Re-Claim

You would not lose the curent live Npar configs, provided you do it carefully (i.e. remove the correct cell/npar)
simply make sure that the unwanted Npar is down, then use parmodify to add the cell to the curent live Npar, and when ready do a
shutdown -R to allow the Npar to boot with a Reconfig to pick up the additiona;l hardware.

Re: nPar Re-Claim

In *addition* (cautios of the Wizard's wand about point-hunting today)to the previous poster's reply *AND* if you are not comfy with command line, you can Via an X-Session:

cd /opt/parmgr/bin/parmgr
export DISPLAY=x.x.x.x:0 (or where your X-DIsplay is)
./parmgr

It launches a GUI where you can collapse the other nPar and add its resources to the other nPar. Note that only CPUs and Memory will be immediately usable w/o further configuration of your surviving nPar's OS. If you want to make use of the other resources on the collapsed nPar like FC cards - then you need to bring it into the configuration.

Note that after you make your partition changes - you need to do a shutdown -R .

Re: nPar Re-Claim

thanks for all of the input. This is great news in case I need to pull the trigger on this option.
