When i am giving ps -aef | grep ntp on a server its gives me the following:
ntp 698 1 0 2004 ? 00:00:00 ntpd -U ntp
Can anybody let me know what this denotes?

Re: ntp question!
The option -U ntp, means the ntpd daemon switch to user ntp instead of using root previleges to run!
As you see, the user of the process is "ntp"
