Number of Unsuccessful Login Tries Allowed

Hi,

On a trusted HPUX 11 system, if the number of unsuccessful login tries allowed is changed from the default value of 3 to zero, that the user account is not disabled if the incorrect password is entered?

The help menu states that the value range is 1 to 99, if the value is set to 3 the user account is disabled after entering an incorrect password 3 times.

Thanks in advance.

If you change this value from 3 to 0 then you disable this feature. ie. the user can now have as many failed password attempts as they like - they will never be disabled.

Correct you are Kirk, usually 3 is pretty standard for most environments.

Hi,

0 entry is not allowed and it actually disables this feature of retries.

1-99 allowed.
