Numeric login names....

Has HP approached the idea of allowing numeric login names with trusted systems? We work in an environment where the Windows domain is going to all numeric logins and we are looking for consistency with logins across the enterprise.

Thanks!

Re: Numeric login names....

Hi Chris,

It's not something I've heard about... If you have a support contract you could log a call with HP and ask for an enhancement request to be created.

regards,

Darren.

Chris,

I found this at http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?admit=716493758+1095949585353+28353475&threadId=121015

Just to summarize, HP confirmed that NUMERIC logins not supported for trusted system. This is due to the /tcb/files/auth dictionary that is compose of characters from A-Za-z.

Re: Numeric login names....

Hi Chris,

As Marcel points out you can't use numerics usernames because of the TCB dir structure.
But to add to this you can't start a username with a numeric. But you *can* have a username start with an alpha & have the _rest_ of the username be numeric or mix alpha/numeric throughout. Just can't start the name numeric.

Jeff

Re: Numeric login names....

Thanks for all of the replies. I was already aware of the different options available, plus the tcb directory setup. I was just curious if HP was considering a change to allow all numeric with trusted. Unfortunately our corporate security is pushing for the all numeric login name, so it looks like HP-UX will be the step child sitting out there by itself while our Windows and AIX environments go all numeric.

I will submit an enhancement request so at least our concerns are documented.

Thanks again!
Chris
