One large SW depot
Hi all,
Working on setting up a centralized SD depot here. I have vision(copied from other places I have worked) of a single SD depot with logical catogories inside the depot. So that, when doing an install from a client, the client sees only 1 depot on the depot server and can browse with in that depot to select the patches, apps to install.
Here is a an example logical layout of the depot:
DEPOT
|
|--HP
| |
| |--APPS
| | |--Online JFS
| | |--Mirrordisk/UX
| |
| |--Patches
| |--Gold Bundles
| |--PHCO
|
|--Oracle
|
|--10g
|--9i
etc, etc.
I understand how to create a depot using swcopy/swreg but am looking for help on how to divide the depot into logical catogories. Thanks for any assitance!

Re: One large SW depot
You will be better off with individual depots off one server designated as your central depot server. It will also make your depot installations faster and maintenance as well will be easier.

Re: One large SW depot
I think "bundles" may be what you are looking for here.
You may wish to have a look at:
man 5 sd
Perhaps you already know this but you can bundle up a number of software products so that swlist will see them as one item.
If you already have all your products in a depot then you can use swmodify to 'bundle' them up.
