Online guest vCPU activation

Hello,
With the HPVM 4.1, how can i activate a vCPU online on a VMGUEST ?
I dont speak about the dynamic CPU resource allocation for a vCPU.

Hi,
Without dynamic CPU, I don't think it's possible.
Because when you do a hpvmmodify -P -c you have a message to restart you Guest start.

Btter to leave the number of vCPUs the same and just adjust the entitlement - i.e. better to have a 4 vCPU VM with 50% entitlement than a 2-node vCPU VM with 100% entitlement.

Bonjour David,

Beginning with version 4.0, but unsupported, and now supported with version 4.1, you will add or delete vCPU from inside the guest with the command "hpvmmgmt -c #"

I have not recently downloaded latest documentations on HPVM, but it was not documented in "4.1 Installation, configuration and administration" T2767-90180.pdf. You will find some explanations about this features in Release Notes, T2767-90797.pdf, page 59/120

Hi,
Eric is right with hpvmmgmt you could enable/disable vcpu online but if you have installed the vmTools first. Curiously if this is recommanded and on the top ten tips for hpvm

many (like me I'm sure) miss to installed it on all guest.
If you don't have installed them on the guest you need to reboot the guest.
So assure you have the vmGuest.SW on the host
Copy it on the guest
After install the vm kit on the guest
swinstall -s hpvm_guest_depot.11iv3.sd
swinstall -s hpvm_guest_depot.11iv2.sd
Finally, you could play with hpvmmgt to enable/disable vcpu but without this you need to stop/start hpvm when you do the hpvmmodify -c
