Online jfs

Hello,

We are using hp_ux 11, we want to install online jfs onto a production box and need to know if the server will need a reboot once installed

Hi,

to install Online JFS you need 1 reboot.

You can always verify by start swinstall and analyze the software, it will tell you a reboot is required and then you can abort.

Yes it does require a reboot. Online JFS adds a driver to the kernel and recompiles the kernel, so to make the new kernel active requires a reboot.

Use swinstall to install the B3929DA bundle from the CD. Note that because B3929DA/full VxFS pulls in a set of kernel components, the autoreboot flag must be specified:
swinstall -x autoreboot=true -s /cdrom B3929DA
The system will reboot after installation.

some questions. The procedure that I followed on 11.00 was enabling online features by giving the code /sbin/vxlicense -c

and then enable online features /sbin/fs/vxfs3.3/vxenablef -a

Then check with /sbin/fs/vxfs3.3/vxenablef

Is it the same on 11i??

Hi,

You need a reboot since the kernel is rebuilt when you install onlineJFS.

the advanced vxfs driver gets added to the kernel. So plan for a reboot.

!!! Be Carefull !!! If you install Online JFS after you have installed the LITS patch PHKL_18543 you need to follow certain procedures. If done incorrectly, the system is unrecoverable.

the answer is yes , one reboot is require , because of the include of the driver of the online JFS .

please also install all the recommend patches for online JFS .
