OnlineJFS license expiration time.

Hello.

I have a box with HP-UX 11.11. It has OnLineJFS installed - swlist | grep JFS says
B3929CA B.11.11 HP OnLineJFS
/sbin/fs/vxfs/vxenablef says
System is licensed for features
Full_VxFS HP_DMAPI
But /usr/sbin/vxlicense -p says
vrts:vxlicense: INFO: Feature name: HP_OnlineJFS [50]
vrts:vxlicense: INFO: Number of licenses: 1 (non-floating)
vrts:vxlicense: INFO: Expiration date: Sun Jun 24 12:00:00 2007 (491.9 days from now)
vrts:vxlicense: INFO: Release Level: 22
vrts:vxlicense: INFO: Machine Class: All
vrts:vxlicense: INFO: Site ID: 0

I can't find an answer, what will happen after Jun 24 2007. If OnlineJFs ceases to function after that day, how to make it function after that? Do I need to purchase some other license, and how that date was determined?

Thanks.

Thanks for the link.
It is said there that the solution will be available in something about a year. The time is in several month, did someone get an answer from HP how to resolve the issue or please tell me, what should I check to see when the solution appears?

You will need a codewaord to extract the depot containing the VxVM license file..

Re: OnlineJFS license expiration time.

Constantin,

It is on one of the Sep 2005 Application CD.. You will however need to get a codeword that matches the part number of the CD you're extracting the depot from.

Re: OnlineJFS license expiration time.

Thanks for help. I have the codeword, but I do not have the application CD. So I will try to download the depot with OnlineJFS and install it.
When I have the results, I write here.

Re: OnlineJFS license expiration time.

Constantin.. Even if you download and upgrade to JFS 3.5 (the free upgarde on the web for both base and OnlineJFS) - your license will stay the same -- expiring in 2007!

Get hold of the application cd set - get the part number, call HP to get the codeword, extract the online JFS depot.. Apply it. Verify that you no longer have the 2007 expiry.

After that you may now upgrade to JFS/VxFS 3.5 (the free download).

Re: OnlineJFS license expiration time.

BTW, on the Application CD (possibly CD1- good if you've the DVD - which I think you can download).. the product name containing the License is :

Re: OnlineJFS license expiration time.

I am quite confused now.
So a new depot (OnLineJFS 3.3) with old codeword will not work, right? So, to make it all work, I have to get new codeword and activate the depot with it. But to get new codeword I have to have the support contract which I do not have. Hmm...

I wanted to try to get new depot (via the link above) which has Product Number B3929CA (OnLineJFS 3.3, according to my codeword sheet), for which I have the codeword and try to reinstall it using old codeword. You say that this way I get nothing and the license will stay expiring in 2007.
I thought the problem in the depot, not in the codeword. Well, I'll try to contect HP for new codeword, but I am not sure it will work.

So, to summarize, the only way to have it all work is to contact HP for new codeword, get the application CD (depot downloaded from Web will not do), and to reinstall the new depot from CD with new codeword. Am I right?

Re: OnlineJFS license expiration time.

There will probably be a global patch from HP in the near future (should be before June 2007).

Re: OnlineJFS license expiration time.

Constantin, correct me if I am wrong, right now:

You have Online JFS Installed right?

# swlist|grep -i jfs
B3929CA B.11.11 HP OnLineJFS

But this installed version is giving you an expiry of June 2007.

The fix is in the "HP OnlineJFS depot" that is on the latest Application CD/DVD (Part XXXX-YYYY). Which you need to re-install.

Get hold of the Application CD/DVD (Sep 2005) from HP or try downloading the Application DVD Image from HP software depot. Whateevr Sep Aplication CD/DVD set you get hold off - get the Part No. (it should be on the CD label OR on the CD_CONTENTS... file).

Call HP - provide them with the part number and your custid and get the code word.

Swinstall the HP OnlineJFS depot and you should have the corrected license file.

Note that you will still be at JFS 3.3. If you want to upgrade to JFS 3.5.. then you only need to install the freely downloadable JFS/VxFS 3.5 depot.

Re: OnlineJFS license expiration time.

Yes, you are right. I have it installed.
# swlist|grep -i jfs
B3929CA B.11.11 HP OnLineJFS
It is from my box.

I now understand what to do - get the CD and new codeword, then to reinstall.

Thank you for your help.

Re: OnlineJFS license expiration time.

Just an update - I saw an issue on my RX2600 -

# /usr/sbin/vxlicense -p
vrts:vxlicense: INFO: No valid license installed

I just updated to the Dec 2005 HP-UX release - things have changed...

New command is:

/usr/sbin/vxlicrep

Re: OnlineJFS license expiration time.

Well, I have vxlicrep in my system, but it says:

I think it is all about the same bug - it thinks the license is DEMO.

Re: OnlineJFS license expiration time.

Shalom,

You are going to need to install a new version of Online JFS.

The best thing to do if possible is to remove the old version first and then install a new one.

You may also be well advised to clean up any license files left behind after removing the current version.

I encountered some bugs installing OnlineJFS a few years back on three identical systems. It was necessary to take the steps I outlined above to rectify the problem.

It was not necessary to touch the codeword files because the codewords were permanent licenses.

I would belive OnlineJFS will stop functioning after the the drop dead date being displayed.

And by the way, what does vxlicense -p say after upgrade? You showed some output, but I can't catch whether it was before upgrade or after.

Re: OnlineJFS license expiration time.

Geoff - you are referring to an 11.23 version - not 11.11 which our good friend Constantin is dealing.

BOTH vxlicrep and vxlicense should work on 11.11 - vxlicrep at VxVM/VxFS 3.5 is deprecated.

Constantin, do not get confused - follow the advice earlier given. Get hold of the Sep. 2005 Application CD set. On CD1 (I believe) will be the HP Online JFS product (essentially it's just the "activation"/license files). If it has the same product code - then your existing codeword should work.. otherwise, get hold of Codeword support and get a new one. Then simply re-install it.

NO NEED TO Remove and Reinstall the current version as the "new" version is not exactly new.. you remain at JFS 3.3 with just the fixed expiration.

I was meaning to do a test upgrade my self but our data center folks have misplaced our Sep 2005 11.11 HP-UX CD/DVD sets.

Re: OnlineJFS license expiration time.

Nelson, thanks again, I was going to do as you told (I have not done it because some time must pass before taking server for maintainence), but Geoff confused me again.
But what he says is almost as you wrote - upgrade with the old codeword. You now say - if it does not work, get the new one. Its almost the same.

Re: OnlineJFS license expiration time.

Ah - sorry for the confusion - forgot you were looking for 11.11 - not 11.23 :(

Nelson has the correct answer.
