OpenGL on HP-UX 11i problem (slow)

Hi everybody!

I have performance problem with OpenGL on HP-UX 11i v1
Machine is C3600 and graphic card is FX 5 pro.

When i run OpenGL demo:
/opt/graphics/OpenGL/demos/occlusion_cull/ocComplex-64
I get MAX 10,12 frames

if i run this demo over Reflection X (Windows 2000 based workstation (ATI Radeon X550) connected to C3600 i get about 50~100 frames
has this FX5pro really such a poor perforamce in OpenGL?

Xserver conf: 1600x1200@75Hz 8bit

patches and software for OpenGL installed:
B6268AA (Graphics and Techical Comupting Software)
PHSS_32967 (3D Common RUN (PA2.0 Only)
PHSS_32968 (OpenGL RUN (PA2.0 Only)

It could be a lot of things. My first recommendation is make sure you are current on General Patching to the latest bi-annual release.

Then look at a patch search and look up motif. There are a number of performance related patches there.

I have my system up2date i installed all patches runnnig a patch assessment.

installed OpenGL Dev and still same problem performance on /opt/graphics/OpenGL/demos/occlusion_cull/ocComplex-64 is really poor as i said max 10,12 frames. :-(

Hi,

what are you comparing - fx5 and x550?
This 50~100 frames - are these for the Radeon?
Which windows size do you have with Refection? 1600x1200 or lower?

Have you tested with a lower Xserver configuration?

Generally, if you compare these 2 cards - I think the fx5 is much older than the x550, and so slower.

Hi again,

with a fx10 I get up to 20 frames (with occlusion enabled, half of this with disabled).
With a fire-gl ux I get up to 100 (50 with disabled), with a fire-gl x3 up to inf (uncountable? - straight 100 with disabled).

So I would check the chipsets of your cards to compare the results.

Well the resolution on machine with ATI Radeon X550 is 1280x1024@85Hz 32bit

I tried to run /opt/graphics/OpenGL/demos/occlusion_cull/ocComplex-64

@ 1280x1024@75Hz 8bit but i get the same frame rate: 10~12 fps

so you should compare the technical datas:
FX5 came in 2000, X550 in 2005!

FX5 has 64MB, Memory-bus 166MHz

X550 has min. 128MB with 500MHz DDR

Not fair to compare these 2 cards, :-))
maybe with a geforce4? ;-)
