Re: OS Upgrade

Yes you can use the HP-UX 11.23 Install CD.

You really really should read the "HP-UX 11i v2 Installation and Update Guide, March 2006" located here:

http://docs.hp.com/en/5991-4794/5991-4794.pdf - PDF Version
http://docs.hp.com/en/5991-4794/index.html - HTML Version

You should also read "HP-UX 11i v2 Read Before Installing or Updating, March 2006"

http://docs.hp.com/en/5991-4812A/5991-4812A.pdf - PDF Version

Re: OS Upgrade

a couple of links you might want to read before upgrading to 11.23

http://docs.hp.com/en/5991-0703-en/5991-0703-en.pdf

http://docs.hp.com/en/5991-4794/ch02s01.html

Also, I would opt for a cold install before doing an upgrade, saves time and trouble if the upgrade goes south.

Re: OS Upgrade

Another thing that you need to be aware of is that no FWD/HVD SCSI device support is provided at 11.23 so that if you need HVD tape libraries/tape drives/disk arrays/disks attached to your L-box then you need to either rethink the upgrade or look into an LVD/HVD SCSI bus converter.

Also, don't overlook the possible requirement of a firmware upgrade before you begin. The Installation and Update Guide already mentioned will guide you through all of this.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: OS Upgrade

Shalom,

upgrade-ux is a notoriously unreliable upgrade path.

You are much better off doing a cold installation of the OS, followed by patches and application installation. The March 2006 patch set for 11.23 is sufficient, however what patches you actually need depends on what applications you intend to run.
