Re: OS upgrade

Hi Vinu

Certainly it creates problems, MirrorDisk, Compilers are different for 10.20 and 11.00.

Upgrade is not advised, do the cold installation
never give up

Re: OS upgrade

I have already completed the OS upgradation and applications are working on it.

So I can't do a cold installation again.

What are ur suggestions for upgrading the additional softwares.

Thanks & Regards

Re: OS upgrade

Hi,
Have you installed 11.00 32bit or 64bit ?
Please take a good backup of your applications and do a cold install and restore it from backup.
If possible make 2 backup sets.
Also if you have O.S and application on seperate disks you can try installing the 11.0 on other disk and test the applications.

Re: OS upgrade

It will create all kinds of problems and for every issue reported, you would be told to upgrade the application to the appropriate version.

It would be in your best interest to upgrade your system completely.

Re: OS upgrade

Vinu,
Do a cold install as suggested earlier, that will definitely keep you away from unpredictable problems in future.

Re: OS upgrade

Request all of u to give suggestions to avoid cold installation and upgrade my applications.

I have already upgraded the OS to 11.0 32 bit
and all the applications are working satisfactorily. So I don't want to do a cold installation at this point of time.

Thanks & Regards

Re: OS upgrade

You will need to upgrade your applications - get your codewords generated for each application you are entitled to from HP Licensing.

BTW - HP Predictive has been replaced with ISEE.

Re: OS upgrade

what is the procedure to upgrade the applications( like MirrorDisk/UX).

The server is not covered under hp software/hardware support,so will the hp give license(codeword) for 11.0. applications to upgrade.

Thanks & Regards

Re: OS upgrade

Vinu,
See if you have purchased the Server's with upgrade option (Refer your PO). if so then HP will provide you with the codewords for the latest OS .. but in case you don't have it then you have to repurchase this products from HP again for the latest version you installed.

Re: OS upgrade

Hi Vinu

That's what i have said in my earlier post, MirrorDisk and compiler for 10.20 wouldn't work on 11.x

for your question now:
No it wouldn't affect existing 11.0
never give up

Re: OS upgrade

10.20 and 11.xx are very different so none of your existing software packages (Mirror/UX, ANSI C, etc) will work. They simply will not install. You must obtain the rights to use these products on the new version of the opsystem. HP's licensing is tied to the original machine. If you purchased the box with 10.20, then you have the right to use 10.20 and any apps purchased from HP for that version of HP-UX. When you upgrade without a support contract, HP will likely charge you for the Application CDROMs and codewords to activate the new versions. Your 10.20 CDROMs are useless for 11.xx versions.

Re: OS upgrade

VINU,

I hate to be the bearer of bad news...

But you have performed an unsupported upgrade from 10.2 to 11.0... You may have voided any contract you had with HP for support.

If you had upgraded to 11i then that would have been supported.
