We had a system crash and one of the things on the monitor was: "System out of virtual space". What does this mean?

Solution
Frist, you need a crash dump analysis. Usually the dump is saved under /var/adm/crash/core. If there's nothing there then take a dump:
"...savecrash -rf /new_dir/file..."
Make sure you've got at least 400mb of space, more is better, 1gb would be nice, but the ceiling is the size of your RAM. To determine the size of your RAM run:
"...dmesg | grep -i phy.."
Also check your swap:
"...swapinfo -tam..."
And note the "...Total..." percent utilized. Anything higher than 85% or near 85% is an issue.
Read your physical memory size.
Obtain a copy of q4 and run this against the dumb.
Off the top of my head its kernel parameters or patching. Also look in /etc/shutdownlog and record the "...isr.ior..." string. If there is an "...isr..." string or a data page fault then it probably an O/S issue.

Re: out of virtual space error?
Also check /etc/rc.config.d/savecrash and crashconf for the location of your dump.
